Customer Reviews: Ultra Slim Zinc Metal Chrome License Plate Camera

This review is from: Ultra Slim Zinc Metal Chrome License Plate Camera (Electronics) I am always concerned about blind spots behind a car or truck. Some time ago I bought a truck with a backup camera installed and I really liked that feature. I also have a Cadillac STS that has a fairly high trunk creating a blind spot. Searched the internet and read reviews of backup cameras, then settled on this one. The frame is sturdy and nice looking, the cable is just the right length to route through the car to a dash mounted nuvi 5000 GPS which has a video input.
Installation was straight forward. Since I wanted to use the bottom holes on the frame, I had to drill these two holes since the STS has only the top two screws for the frame. Routing the cable was pretty simple since the trunk is fully carpeted. Only had to fold some of the carpet back to route the cable. Exiting the trunk to the cabin was easy since I followed existing wiring on the right side which exits low under the back seats and disappears under the floor flash under the doors. Just slipped the wire under the flash and followed forward to the dash. Spliced into the cable for power and ground at the rear connector and wired it to the backup light. This means the camera turns on only when the backup light is on. The nuvi 5000 has a large display and the backup camera shows a detailed picture in full color. The nuvi 5000 switches automatically to video when the camera turns on and back to street map when the camera turns off. Did a little adjustment to the camera, rotate down further to see the ground right below the rear bumper. Still shows full area display though. Very satisfied with the product.
